and God said:

The first book of the Bible, the book of Genesis starts with these words:

IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH. AND THE EARTH WAS WITHOUT FORM AND VOID; AND DARKNESS WAS UPON THE FACE OF THE DEEP. AND THE SPIRIT OF GOD MOVED UPON THE FACE OF THE WATERS. AND GOD SAID:

“LET THERE BE LIGHT, AND THERE WAS LIGHT”

Before God chose to act, the earth was formless and void. No life could exist on the planet. But at a particular time in eternity, God chose a particular place to do a specific act. Create a world in which life could exist – life made in his image, life made like him.

Note that God acted:

  • in a particular place
  • at a particular time
  • to do something in particular

and note too, that everything starts with God. Apart from him and his action, no life can exist. That is not just true of our physical existence, but true spiritually. Note also that what is good starts with God. This will become significant when we come to the Fall as outlined in chapter 3 of Genesis.

Let us notice too that it was the act of God speaking which caused something tangible to happen on planet earth. This continues to be true. It is axiomatic in fact. Let us note too that something precedes God speaking.

THE SPIRIT OF GOD MOVED

The speaking by God came out of the very nature and the action of God. Back of God’s words are the very life and a particular intention of God. There is Thought and there is Life. Thought and Life exist in God, and they originate with God. When Moses meets God in the Biblical account of history recorded in the second book of the Bible, called Exodus, God identifies himself as

I AM !

God the ever existing; God the all existing; God the all powerful; God the all knowing: or in technical jargon:

OmniPresent

OmniPotent

OmniScient

He is the Ultimate; he is the Source of all; he is THE First Cause and Final Purpose. As such, all things and all life belong to him ! Being who he is, he may do whatever he wishes with what belongs to him – you and I included.

This last offends man’s Pride a matter we will consider in chapter 3. For the moment let’s just consider the ramifications of chapter 1.

Everything comes from God and we are totally dependent upon him for the world we live in,  for each breath we breathe every moment of every day of our earthly, mortal existence.

We are dependent on God our Maker, and he alone is dependable. Ultimately all that matters in our lives is what God wants –  not what we want or what others require from us, but what God wants. In short, what God says in the Bible.

The personal icon photograph shows God's creation, the world. It reminds us that God is the Creator of all - the almighty, the all knowing and all present - the one who is most important of all. The one to whom we owe all, and the one to whom we will answer for all. The site's header image of the Bible [King James Authorised Version], a map, a light and a compass represent to us that God's word in the Bible is our spiritual map, illumination and guide through this life. Those who obey his teaching will know his presence and power - Gospel of John, chapter 14, verse 23
