We live with a very warped view of how this world works. That is why there are so many problems. We live as though human beings were the only presence in the universe and that God does not exist.
However, God does live, and we will never quite understand this life until we accept this truth.
Remove God our Maker, our Sustainer and our Judge out of the equation, and the result is a gross distortion. Instead, we live as if human beings were the start, the means, the purpose of life on earth.
We live by what we readily see, hear and touch. By what we experience and by what we want. We exclude God and so distort our perception of life.
But our desire for leadership and guidance beyond ourselves remains. In our ignorance, we place the trust which belongs to God alone in other human beings. Observe what has actually happened in history. Look at the godless, totalitarian regimes in the world today. Look at what has happened around the world during the course of this year, 2020.
But the Bible always has the correct diagnosis and the appropriate solution, if only we will take notice and heed its wisdom. The Psalmist says in Psalm 146 of the Authorised Version of King James
PRAISE YE THE LORD. PRAISE THE LORD O MY SOUL !
WHILE I LIVE WILL I PRAISE THE LORD: I WILL SING PRAISES UNTO MY GOD WHILE I HAVE ANY BEING.
PUT NOT YOUR TRUST IN PRINCES, NOR IN THE SON OF MAN IN WHOM THERE IS NO SALVATION ! HIS BREATH GOETH FORTH, HE RETURNETH TO HIS EARTH; IN THAT VERY DAY HIS THOUGHTS PERISH.
HAPPY IS HE THAT HATH THE GOD OF JACOB FOR HIS HELP – WHOSE HOPE IS IN THE LORD HIS GOD
- WHICH MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA AND ALL THAT THEREIN IS:
- WHICH KEEPETH TRUTH FOR EVER
- WHICH EXECUTETH JUDGEMENT FOR THE OPPRESSED
- WHICH GIVETH FOOD TO THE HUNGRY
- THE LORD LOOSETH THE PRISONERS
- THE LORD OPENETH THE EYES OF THE BLIND
- THE LORD RAISETH THEM THAT ARE BOWED DOWN
- THE LORD LOVETH THE RIGHTEOUS
- THE LORD PRESERVETH THE STRANGERS – HE RELIEVETH THE FATHERLESS AND WIDOW; BUT THE WAY OF THE WICKED HE TURNETH UPSIDE DOWN
- THE LORD SHALL REIGN FOREVER – THY GOD, O ZION, UNTO ALL GENERATIONS
PRAISE YE THE LORD !
The Psalmist tells us to focus our thinking toward God, away from ourselves; toward who he is and what he does. Towards his far, far greater power – a power over life and death itself, a power over our entire future, over our eternal destiny and existence.
Governments will let you down, That’s inevitable – they are run by fallible human beings. So, let us not be foolish and expect divine answers and solutions from mere human beings. Look instead to God – to his power and presence and to his guidance for our lives in his declared word to us in the Bible, and in the Person of the Son, Jesus Christ.
