Believe it or not

If someone tells you something, you have a choice. To believe it or not. If someone writes something down and you read it, you have the same choice.

Many people write to entertain; others to inform or persuade. The first type are often merely fictional. You are not supposed to believe them, just indulge the make believe. But the second type are intended by their authors to be taken seriously.

And in writing they have a purpose.

This blog post has a purpose. This website has a purpose. To bring a witness or testimony or confirmation to a remarkable claim which the author believes to be true.

It merits consideration.

The problem if we mention the word ‘Bible’ is that people have pre-existing notions. So they are unwilling to consider the evidence.

Well, if you are prepared to consider the evidence, the Bible too has a purpose. And what is remarkable and quite unique about that book is not only its claim to be a God given set of documents, but that it can also rationally be seen to be what it claims.

There are 66 documents which make up the biblia or ‘the books’  of the Bible. They are written by authors who lived at different times, sometimes centuries apart. There could therefore have been no humanly contrived conspiracy or plan to bring the whole together with one single purpose and meaning.

But that is exactly what the Bible is. A collection of books with one purpose and meaning written by over two dozen authors over many, many years.

The subject was Jesus Christ and the purpose is deliverance from our sin and damnation to know and love God forever.

As the Evangelist John wrote in his Gospel account, chapter 20, verse 31

These are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

And if you do truly believe then you will obey the teaching Jesus brought and which he commissioned his disciples to pass on in the records of the New Testament of the Bible.

The personal icon photograph shows God's creation, the world. It reminds us that God is the Creator of all - the almighty, the all knowing and all present - the one who is most important of all. The one to whom we owe all, and the one to whom we will answer for all. The site's header image of the Bible [King James Authorised Version], a map, a light and a compass represent to us that God's word in the Bible is our spiritual map, illumination and guide through this life. Those who obey his teaching will know his presence and power - Gospel of John, chapter 14, verse 23
