A beautiful sunny day

After the cool and cold days of winter, the warmth of Spring time is here. Every thing is coming forth: the early flowers and the blossom appear and the trees and shrubs begin to green.

The prospect of summer is here.

The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech and night unto night showeth knowledge.

There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.

Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.

In them hath He set a tabernacle for the sun … his going forth is from the end of the heaven and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

Having established the greatness and regularity of the natural world, King David here in Psalm 19 goes on to rehearse the established, sure and immutable ways of God for us who live in his creation.

The law of the LORD is perfect converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired than gold, yea than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them is great reward.

Then David turns from explaining the ways of God to calling on God for his insight and help.

Who can understand his errors ? Cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back they servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight O LORD my strength and my redeemer.

King David – prophet, priest and king – a ‘type’ in theological terms foreshadowing Christ.

As king he understands and speaks of the greatness and glory of the great heavenly Ruler, the King of kings, who has laid down and ordered the universe over which he continues to reign.

As prophet he then speaks to us of the ways of God, ways that God has shown him in the errors and experience of his own life.

As priest he prays not the pharisaical prayer of the hypocrite for others, but for himself that God in his Great Knowledge and Understanding might keep David from the deceitfulness of his wicked human heart…

The personal icon photograph shows God's creation, the world. It reminds us that God is the Creator of all - the almighty, the all knowing and all present - the one who is most important of all. The one to whom we owe all, and the one to whom we will answer for all. The site's header image of the Bible [King James Authorised Version], a map, a light and a compass represent to us that God's word in the Bible is our spiritual map, illumination and guide through this life. Those who obey his teaching will know his presence and power - Gospel of John, chapter 14, verse 23
